Chocolate Persimmon; "Kinokawa Kaki"
Quantity: x1 10oz Chocolate Persimmon
Origin: Japan
Seasonality: Late Summer-Mid Winter
Tree Ripened x Air Flown
The Chocolate Persimmon is a square, or diamond, shaped Persimmon depending on how you look at it. The flesh is naturally chocolate coloured, but tastes nothing like chocolate. Sorry if that just broke your heart. It does however have an incredibly refreshing honey-like flavour.
The flesh texture is like a slightly grainy jam when ripe. It can also be enjoyed slightly firmer for a crisper texture. However you wish to enjoy it, make sure to snap some photos.
Preparation Ideas: Sliced fresh persimmon in a beet and citrus salad is a fall classic. Take it to the next level and caramelize or broil your persimmon and serve with whatever you want. Or the easiest way to turn persimmons into a dessert: freeze them, defrost them, cut off the tops, sit on the couch, and spoon out the insides like custard. Whatever you choose, you don't need permission to eat a persimmon. Sorry. Had to say that.
