Egg Fruit gets its English name from the hardboiled egg yolk-like texture of the flesh. While not as dry as a hardboiled egg, the texture is certainly not succulent like a mango, or Pawpaw. The texture is creamy and mousse-like with a rich, butterscotch/banana flavour. Being a member of the Sapotaceae family you will notice similarities in the seeds, texture, and size as fruits like Sapodilla and Sapote. 

The flavour is also nothing like an egg. It has a rich, butterscotch and banana flavour. 

Preparation Ideas: Wait for the fruit to get so soft that the skin peels off when you touch it. Cut the Egg Fruit in half, scoop out the big seed(s) and eat with a spoon. Or if it's the holidays try some Egg Fruit-Nog!
