Normally brown skin on a fruit is not a good thing, but fear not - this is the way of the Bosc Pear. Ideal for baking, broiling and/or poaching, these versatile pears retain their shape and texture far better than any other varieties when cooking. Don't get too excited to chomp into one right away though. These suckers take a couple days at room temperature to ripen up. You can tell if they are ripe by pressing your beautiful thumb into the neck of the fruit.
